Keep the Beat

Tap with the drum and hold the same tempo when the sound drops out.

How to play

BPM means beats per minute: a higher number means a faster pulse. Unlike Rhythm recall, this game measures when you tap, rather than which grid positions you select.

  1. Wait through the four-beat count-in. When Tap along appears, tap the large pad or press Space once per drum beat.
  2. After four audible beats, the drum goes quiet. Keep tapping at the same pace without a sound or flashing beat to follow.
  3. Continue as the drum returns for two beats. Your taps save automatically when the round finishes.
  4. Review your average timing error, missed beats and extra taps. The next round starts after five seconds; solo play also lets you pause.

Try an example

This short demonstration uses an 80 BPM pulse. Listen for four beats, then keep the pulse through four silent beats.

At 80 BPM, each beat is 0.75 seconds apart. How should your taps change when the drum stops?

80 BPM · four audible beats, four silent, then the drum returns. Tap your desk or knee to follow along.

Show example answer

Keep the same 0.75-second spacing for all four silent beats.

Silence changes the sound, not the tempo. If you tap faster, you finish ahead of the returning drum. If you slow down, you finish behind it. The game’s review shows how early or late your matched taps were.

Scoring and modes

Only the silent section earns points, up to 100 per round. Closer timing earns more. Missing a beat or adding extra taps reduces the score, so rapid tapping does not help. Consistent warm-up taps can account for a small device or input delay. An On beat result means at least 80 points.

Daily and practice each have ten rounds, worth up to 1,000 points. Silent gaps grow from four beats to ten; tempos vary between rounds. Daily uses the same set for everyone and resets at midnight UTC. Practice starts a fresh set.

Head-to-head gives both players the same tempos, silent gaps and clock. There are no pauses or replays. Higher total points wins; equal scores draw, without a response-speed tiebreaker. Ranked results affect your separate Keep the Beat rating.

Try thisKeep your hand moving at the same pace through the silence. Avoid speeding up to fill the gap.
